The Small Town and Rural Language Teachers organization has announced that Angela Williams of the Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts has been selected to serve among the first cohort of the esteemed Georgia World Language Peer Mentoring Program. Ms. Williams has been selected to serve in the capacity of Mentor.

Research has consistently demonstrated that high-quality, structured peer mentoring can benefit both mentees and mentors alike. To that end, this prestigious, statewide program has been designed to support novice world language teachers while simultaneously recognizing and furthering the development of teacher leadership among experienced Georgia world language educators.

Mentor-Mentee pairs are expected to work collaboratively to develop strategic, observable, and measurable goals throughout their term to support mentees in establishing effective and sustainable communicative teaching practices.

Selection to participate in a program such as this is a reflection of a commitment to research-based best practices in the teaching of languages and cultures. The impressive individuals identified as Georgia World Language Peer Mentors have accumulated a wealth of experience and expertise in the classroom and, through a competitive application process, have demonstrated a strong capacity to support the next generation of communicative language teachers.

This nomination is also indicative of the support and value for language learning on behalf of Ms. Williams’s administration, school board, and school community at large. This selection invites broad celebration and recognition of her leadership, expertise, ability, and commitment to a vibrant and effective language learning community in the state of Georgia.
