Leaders at Goodwill Southeast Georgia are excited to announce they are the recipients of a Bank of America economic mobility grant. The funding will support the growth of the free education, skills training, and job placement available through Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s Opportunity Centers.

“Support from community partners is key to the regional expansion of the person-centered services and programs we have to offer through the Opportunity Center,” says Veronica Styron, Vice President of Mission Services at Goodwill Southeast Georgia. “Our mission is to empower individuals to reach their highest potential. We connect people with sustainable careers that make all their goals reachable—professional, personal, educational, and beyond.”

“Partnering with Goodwill Southeast Georgia to address important issues like workforce development and employment is part of our commitment to creating real change in Savannah,” said Patrick O'Neil, president, Savannah. “Investing in Savannah’s nonprofits demonstrates how Bank of America is taking action to provide the resources and support needed to help build thriving communities long-term.”

Education and work are proven solutions to breaking the cycle of poverty. Certifications and technical education can open opportunities to achieve mid-wage employment. Goodwill services are free to participants, allowing them to focus on their goals and building the future they want for themselves. Partners such as Bank of America help support Opportunity Center programs, along with revenue earned from Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s distinct programs: donated goods retail, manufacturing, and contract services.

Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s Opportunity Centers are in Savannah, Richmond Hill, Statesboro, Waycross, Brunswick and Jesup. Through the first half of 2024, the Centers have served more than 2,000 individuals and placed more than 230 into sustainable, mid-wage employment.
