St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion (LCRP) has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited sites, and 30 years of accreditation experience. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety.

“Gold seal accreditation is only awarded to facilities meeting the highest standards,” said Pam Proman, Administrator, St. Joseph’s/Candler Ambulatory Oncology at the LCRP. “We are proud to receive this accreditation, as it represents the commitment that our physicians, nurses and staff have to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to this community.”

Radiation oncology is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’spain. The LCRP employs the most advanced radiation technology available, including theCyberKnife® and TrueBeam systems.

“To receive this accreditation, a facility must meet specific requirements based on practice guidelines and technical standards developed by ACR,” said Amanda Thomas, Director, Oncology Regulatory Compliance and Radiation Oncology Services. “This is after a rigorous peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. It is gratifying to us as providers of cancer care to know that the ACR assessed every aspect of our practice and the result was a gold seal.”
