New Children's Choir Launches in Savannah

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, August 27th, 2024

Today a dynamic new children’s choir is launching in Savannah. SING, standing for “Savannah Inspiring the Next Generation,” is dedicated to fostering musical talent, teamwork, and community involvement among young singers in the Savannah area.

SING is now open for registration to third-eighth graders from Savannah and the surrounding region, including Chatham, Effingham, Bryan and Liberty Counties. This choir aims to inspire a love for music and provide enriching experiences both on and off the stage for children with an interest in the vocal arts. Rehearsals will take place every Monday evening from 5:30-6:45 p.m. at Asbury Memorial Church, 1008 E. Henry Street. These weekly sessions will be led by Artistic Director Rebecca Flaherty, and will focus on vocal technique, musical literacy, lyrical movement, and ensemble singing.

“SING is about so much more than singing in harmony; it is a community dedicated to nurturing young people, promoting the joy of music, and making a positive impact in the Savannah area,” said Flaherty. “We look forward to welcoming our first group of young singers and embarking on this exciting journey together.

The mission of SING is to provide the young people of Savannah with an affirming, joy-filled musical community, allowing them to flourish into healthy, kind, curious leaders.

Registration is now open. For this inaugural season, families are asked to make a suggested donation of $50 for the season to help cover the cost of music and other expenses. Financial assistance is available for families in need to ensure that no child is turned away due to financial constraints. Tax-deductible donations from the community will be gratefully accepted.

Interested singers and their parents are invited to SING’s open house at Asbury Memorial Church, 1008 E. Henry Street, on Monday, Sept. 9 from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m.
