Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, September 23rd, 2024

The Abbie DeLoach Foundation (ADF) is a proud sponsor, for the 8th year, of the annual True Blue 5K/Abbie’s Adventure Race.  This event is held in partnership with Georgia Southern University’s (GSU) Campus Recreation and Intramurals (CRI) and takes place during the school’s homecoming weekend.  The races are on Saturday, October 19, 2024, with the starting line at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC, 2687 Akins Boulevard, Statesboro). With a wonderful course that includes a path going through the beautiful GSU campus, these events provide a fun and exciting way to kickoff homecoming before the Eagles play the James Madison University Dukes.

Abbie’s dad, ADF president and founder, Jimmy DeLoach, Jr. is honored each year to be the one to present the medals at the finish line.  “My daughter Abbie loved adventure and fun!”, he says.  “The fact that the course changes each year adds to the excitement and uniqueness of Abbie's Adventure Race. It keeps participants engaged and eager to return, knowing that they'll face new challenges and experiences each time.”

There are four ways to participate:

  • Abbie’s Adventure Race (8 a.m.): In this fun and creative race, participants will navigate a 5K course filled with physical obstacles and mental challenges. The course will include sections of mud and water to enhance the adventure
  • True Blue 5K Run/Walk (8:30 a.m.): Participants will run or walk a 5K course across the picturesque GSU Statesboro campus
  • Kiddie Run (prior to awards ceremony): This fun, kid-friendly race will cover a quarter-mile course on the GSU Statesboro campus
  • Virtual 5K: The True Blue spirit spreads from Georgia and beyond, as far away as Japan

Online registration is online until Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 11:59 PM EDT https://abbiedeloachfoundation.com/georgia-southern-5k/.  Registration is also available on race day from 7:00 AM until 7:30 AM.  Packet pick up is in the RAC lobby on Friday, October 18 from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Saturday, October 19 from 6:30 AM until 7:30 AM.  Abbie’s Adventure Race is limited, participants will need to find a partner and get registered.

The 5K and Abbie’s Adventure Run fees are $30.00 and $40.00.  The price varies depending on if you are a member of the community, student, faculty, administrator or alum of GSU.

The Kiddie Run is free of charge.  Registration for virtual participants is $35.00. T-shirts will be available to the first 350 registered participants and medals are awarded to the first 350 finishers.

ADF is proud that this event allows the foundation the ability to give back to the GSU community.  The student organization with the most registrants will be awarded $1,000.00.  They can choose if these funds will remain with their organization or be donated to the charity of their choice as the winner of The Abbie DeLoach Foundation Contest. All registrants can indicate the organization they wish to support (they do not have to be a part of that organization).

Students can collect homecoming points with at least five (5) participants. Registration to receive these points ends at 5pm on October 17.
