Savannah African Art Museum Appoints Alisa Faye Evans-Newsome As Executive Director

Savannah African Art Museum has appointed Alisa Faye Evans-Newsome as their new Executive Director. The museum is a space dedicated to sharing the power, diversity, and spirituality of African art in Savannah.

As a self-taught academic and lover of African cultures and history, Evans-Newsome joined the Savannah African Art Museum team in 2019. She spent the prior years in organization, management, and leadership positions, ranging from Manager at J.R. Riggins to Director of Human Resources at Kole Management Company.

“I am delighted and honored to step into this position at the Savannah African Art Museum,” said Evans-Newsome. “I look forward to working with our talented team here to continue preserving and celebrating the rich African cultures while looking for new ways to inspire our guests.”

Evans-Newsome's favorite and most rewarding aspect of her new role is being able to thrill young people on tours with stories that can date as far back as 900 years. She is passionate about reading, writing, researching, and starting conversations about the cradle of civilization, Africa. In addition to being Executive Director, Evans-Newsome is the wife to John Newsome and the mother of Brodrick Sterling Wiley.

The Savannah African Art Museum is a non-profit institution devoted to spreading awareness and appreciation of African culture.
