Savannah Stands with CURE Childhood Cancer This September

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, September 11th, 2024

This September, Savannah shines gold in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The community is rallying behind CURE Childhood Cancer, the only organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support to local children and families battling this devastating disease.

CURE goes beyond offering financial and emotional assistance by also raising critical funds specifically for pediatric oncology research. This research brings hope for a future where no child has to face cancer.

Throughout September, numerous local businesses will be joining the fight. They'll host special events, offer themed products, and donate proceeds to CURE Childhood Cancer.

"We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming response from Savannah's business community," said Mandy Garola, Vice President of CURE, South Georgia. "Their generosity and unwavering support are a testament to the strength of our city. Together, we are making a profound impact on the lives of children battling cancer."

Memorial Hospital Leads the Charge with Sweet Support

A longtime champion of CURE, Memorial Health Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah will host a fun-filled Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 19, from 3:45 pm to 5:00 pm. This free event, held at the Sunshine Park and Healing Garden (adjacent to the Children's Hospital of Savannah at 4700 Waters Ave.), offers children undergoing cancer treatment and their supporters a chance to enjoy complimentary Leopold's Ice Cream while celebrating September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Adding even more sweetness to the event, Memorial Hospital will present a generous donation to CURE, providing crucial funds for their ongoing research efforts.
