Savannah Arts Academy is thrilled to announce that its One Act play, Blood Wedding, by Federico Garcia Lorca, has won the prestigious Ray Horne Theatre Festival at the Georgia Theatre Conference. This remarkable achievement highlights the talent and dedication of our students and faculty.
As the winners of this esteemed festival, Savannah Arts Academy will proudly represent Georgia at the upcoming Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) in Baltimore, Maryland, this March. This opportunity will allow our students to showcase their artistry on a national stage and engage with fellow young performers from across the region.
**Synopsis:**
In Federico Garcia Lorca’s poetic folk tragedy of death and desire, a bride struggles with unresolved feelings for a former suitor. On the night of her wedding, a moonlit escape ignites a chain of events that will forever haunt the families of those involved. *Blood Wedding* confronts passions driven by love and vengeance while challenging Spanish traditions of marriage and honor.
“To burn with desire and keep quiet about it is the greatest punishment we can bring on ourselves.” -Federico Garcia Lorca
Blood Wedding, directed by David I. L. Poole, captivated audiences with its powerful storytelling and stunning performances, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of its source material. The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring this evocative piece to life, and their hard work has truly paid off.
“We are incredibly proud of our students' accomplishments and their dedication to the craft of theatre," said David Poole. "This recognition at the Ray Horne Theatre Festival is a testament to their passion and creativity."
