Monday, October 21st, 2024
Savannah State University (SSU) recently welcomed prospective students and their families to explore the campus and learn about the university's academic programs, campus life, and opportunities for personal and professional growth during its Open Campus Day.
“Open Campus Day allowed us to showcase the many wonderful attributes of our university that have boosted enrollment this year,” said SSU Interim President Cynthia Alexander. “Visitors were excited to learn about our expanding programs, engage with students and faculty and see demonstrations of our vibrant community life.”
More than 500 visitors, including high school students, transfer students, non-traditional students and graduate students strolled the historic campus to get a firsthand glimpse into life at Savannah State University. Attendees took guided tours of the campus led by knowledgeable student ambassadors, showcasing SSU's state-of-the-art facilities, historic landmarks, and beautiful surroundings. The Wesleyan Gospel Choir, the Powerhouse of the South marching band and Divine 9 fraternities and sororities performed for the prospective students.
Visitors also attended informational sessions and presentations on academic programs, admissions requirements, financial aid opportunities, and student support services, to learn about the diverse educational pathways available at SSU. In addition, faculty members, staff, and current students shared their experiences, answered questions, and provided valuable guidance and advice.
The event came on the heels of a recruiting event in Atlanta on Oct. 5 that netted several new students for the state’s oldest public Historically Black College and University (HBCU). SSU is planning several more recruiting events in other areas around the state this year.
“We want to share the SSU story with potential students near and far,” said SSU Director of Admissions Brian Dawsey. “We have an amazing legacy and we’re planning an outstanding future for prospective SSU Tigers.”
