Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, November 22nd, 2024

This Thanksgiving, the Dewitt Tilton Group is proud to continue its holiday tradition of honoring Pooler’s brave firefighters. For the seventh consecutive year, the award-winning design-build commercial and industrial construction company will treat firefighters and support staff at the City of Pooler Fire-Rescue Headquarters to a catered lunch on Monday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at Station 1 (1093 S. Rogers St.).

With new recruits joining department veterans for the festivities, the fire house will enjoy a delicious spread from Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ Restaurant. The menu features all the Thanksgiving classics: smoked turkey and ham, cornbread dressing, fresh green beans, sweet potato casserole, hot cheese biscuits, rich brown gravy and refreshing sweet tea.

"Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day," said Chris Tilton, President and Co-founder of Dewitt Tilton Group. "Serving these incredible men and women a Thanksgiving meal is a small way to show our appreciation for their sacrifice and service."

The tradition began in 2018 and reflects Dewitt Tilton Group's deep appreciation for the firefighters' contributions to the community. "Often people don’t realize how firefighters keep people safe even when they aren’t battling a blaze or helping someone who is injured," continued Tilton. "Proactively, this crew works closely with the City and the Fire Department on inspections, site reviews and permits. They make an sure everything is safe from the ground up."

"We're incredibly grateful to the Dewitt Tilton Group for their continued support of our department," said Wade Simmons, Fire Chief at City of Pooler. "It really helps to boost morale and strengthen the bond between our firefighters and the community. It’s a great way to show our team that their hard work and dedication don't go unnoticed."

Building on the spirit of community, Pooler Elementary School students are once again creating personalized "Thanksgiving turkey firefighter" coloring sheets for the first responders. Over 100 coloring sheets were delivered last year and the Dewitt Tilton Group hopes to bring even more this year.

"It's so fun to get the children involved in this Thanksgiving tradition," said Amy Friess, Director of Business Strategy and Development at Dewitt Tilton Group. "It shows our firefighters that their hard work is appreciated by the whole community, even the little ones. Plus, the adorable messages written in crayon really bring a smile to everyone's face."
