Forsyth Farmers’ Market – a leading nonprofit organization based in Savannah, Ga. that is dedicated to supporting local farmers and expanding community access to fresh, affordable food – hosted a garden party and officially cut the ribbon on Friday, Nov. 15 on a new ADA-accessible community garden at Savannah Gardens, located at 500 Wyoming St. The new garden is accessible to all residents of the 484-unit Savannah Gardens housing community on Savannah’s eastside.

“Our goal is to be able to feed about 25 to 30 families from this garden on a consistent basis, said Aja Embry, Director of Community Building for Forsyth Farmers’ Market. “We’re thrilled that Savannah Gardens residents of all ages can grow their own food with their own hands and enjoy fresh produce throughout the year. This new garden will benefit the entire community at Savannah Gardens.”

At the community garden ribbon cutting, Forsyth Farmers’ Market representatives and Savannah Gardens volunteers planted fall and winter crops, including lettuce, cabbage and collard greens. The new edible garden represents the Forsyth Farmers’ Market’s ongoing commitment to provide direct access to fresh, locally grown produce for Savannah-area residents.

The ribbon cutting united Savannah Gardens residents, Forsyth Farmers’ Market staff members and local businesses who contributed to the creation of the new community garden, including Under One Sun Creative Consulting, Code of Return Compost, C&K Custom Gutter Solutions and Decks & Docks Lumber Company.
