Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, November 6th, 2024

The Savannah African Art Museum will host their third annual Kwanzaa Marketplace from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 14, and 21 in the Museum’s Courtyard, located at 201 East 37th Street. Each marketplace will feature vendors of the African Diaspora selling various handcrafted items such as jewelry, art, clothing, and more. The vendors’ work will be from or inspired by Africa, African Art, and African culture.

The Museum’s Kwanzaa Marketplace is a public event for the local and tourism community to celebrate and learn more about the African-American cultural holiday, Kwanzaa, which is based on the African Celebration of “First Fruits.” Kwanzaa is a celebration of family, community, and culture celebrated December 26 – January 1 by millions throughout the African Diaspora. The festivity provides a unique holiday shopping experience that introduces and supports the creative works by local artisans of the African Diaspora.

“It is such a joy to be able to add to our West & Central African Art collection and Pottery exhibit our Annual Kwanzaa Marketplace which is rooted in African tradition and creativity. We look forward to celebrating with old and new friends,” said Education and Outreach Liaison Lisa Jackson.
