Savannah Native Helps Secure 60th Presidential Inauguration

Savannah native Antwan Lang, a Commissioned Officer with the Washington D.C. National Guard, played a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of the 60th Presidential Inauguration. Serving as a Platoon Leader in the 276th Military Police Company, part of the 372nd Military Police Battalion, Lang and his unit worked alongside federal and local law enforcement to protect one of the most significant events in the nation’s history.
Lang and his team were deputized as special police officers by the U.S. Capitol Police, United States Secret Service, and U.S. Marshals, giving them the authority to assist these agencies in maintaining order and security during the historic event. Their mission included crowd control, perimeter security, and ensuring the safety of attendees, dignitaries, and officials.
“Our role was to support civilian law enforcement and ensure the event unfolded safely and peacefully,” Lang explained. “It was a tremendous honor to be part of such a historic moment, representing the Washington D.C. National Guard and serving our country.”
As a Platoon Leader, Lang’s leadership was essential to coordinating his team’s efforts. From strategic planning to on-the-ground decision-making, his ability to lead under pressure ensured his unit was mission-ready and effective in their duties. “Leadership in moments like this means ensuring my Soldiers are prepared, focused, and supported,” Lang said. “The success of our mission depended on teamwork and a commitment to the task at hand.”
