SING to Perform First Concert - Jan. 26

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025

The children’s choir, SING: Savannah Inspiring the Next Generation, will perform their first concert titled ‘A Million Dreams’ at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26 at Asbury Memorial Church, located at 1008 E Henry Street. The concert features songs about dreams, dreamers, and keepers of dreams, performed by young voices from Savannah and the surrounding areas. This secular choir invites the community to celebrate the performance debut of SING.

“SING is a big dream I've had for a while,” said Artistic Director Rebecca Flaherty. “And to see the creation of our young people’s choir and being ready to perform in just a few months, with so many beautiful partnerships along the way, has been just incredible.”

The concert’s songs all center on the theme of dreams. One of the songs, called "The Dream Keeper," is based on a poem by Langston Hughes. Inspired by the piece, one of the SING students wrote her own poem to be recited at the concert. Another of the songs, "Be the Light," was inspired by Amanda Gorman's poem, "The Hill We Climb," which she read at Joe Biden's inauguration. Some of the young singers will read a portion of that poem before the song is performed.

SING’s dedicated team of local performing arts leaders provides an affirming, joy-filled place for children to flourish into healthy, kind, curious leaders. The team consists of Rebecca Flaherty, Artistic Director; Ray Ellis, Collaborative Pianist; Cheri Hester, Choreographer; Randy Canady, Administrator; and Bella Manley, Intern and Mentor. With the team’s artistic direction, young singers come together weekly to rehearse, explore their voices, and uplift one another.

SING is currently welcoming new members to enroll until Feb. 10. To enroll, please visit the “Join Us” page on the website at www.singchildrenschoir.org.

SING is a new children’s choir in Savannah, serving children in grades third through eighth. Dedicated to accessibility and artistic excellence, SING provides opportunities for young singers to grow their talents, connect with their peers, and inspire the community through the transformative power of music.
