City of Port Wentworth to Host Third Annual Black History Month Program - Feb. 22
Thursday, February 13th, 2025
The City of Port Wentworth will be hosting their third annual Black History Month program from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Rice Creek School, located on 100 Mulberry Avenue in Port Wentworth. The celebration has been curated to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.
"Black history is not just a reflection of the past; it is a blueprint for the future,” said Moncello Stewart, President of the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce. “The City of Port Wentworth's Black History Program is an opportunity to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers who have shaped our community and beyond. As President of the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce, I am honored to support this initiative and continue our mission of economic empowerment, advocacy, and cultural preservation."
This free event follows the overarching national theme of Black History Month in 2025: The Legacy of Labor in the African American Workforce. Port Wentworth Councilman Rufus Bright commented, “Just as Dr. King had a dream, we too have a dream—to educate and uplift by highlighting the invaluable contributions of African Americans in shaping America. Through this program, we hope to inspire and empower the next generation to build upon the foundation laid by those who came before them.”
Attendees on Feb. 22 can expect musical entertainment from local school bands, poetry readings, and a guest panel with community leaders that all aim to highlight the incredible contributions of African Americans in the workforce, from the past to the present, and reflect on their ongoing impact in shaping our nation's labor history.
“We are grateful to be able to host events like this which help educate our community and celebrate the African American culture. We hope you join us to celebrate, reflect, and learn more about the significant role that labor plays in shaping our communities and our city’s future,” said Port Wentworth Mayor Pro- Tem Gabrielle Nelson.
