The Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT) Board of Directors will host a special bus stop dedication ceremony to honor former Vice-chair Helen Stone for 20 years of dedicated service to public transportation and the Chatham County community.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the Abercorn and Twelve Oaks bus stop, where a commemorative plaque will be unveiled in her honor.

“This dedication is a fitting tribute to former Vice-chair Helen Stone,” said Deidrick Cody, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Her vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment helped shape a more efficient, accessible, and resilient transit system for Chatham County.”

Stone first joined the CAT Board of Directors in 2005 and later served as Vice-chair, providing invaluable guidance and oversight. Throughout her tenure, she played a pivotal role in advancing key projects, including the Joe Murray Rivers Jr. Intermodal Transit Center, the CAT Central Main Office Renovation, and the Hutchinson Island Intermodal Transit Center.

She concluded her service on December 31, 2024, leaving behind a lasting impact on public transportation in the region.

The event is open to the public, and CAT invites community members to join in celebrating Helen Stone’s legacy.
