Garrison School for the Arts Choir, Dance, and Orchestra to Perform on Opening Night of The 2025 Savannah Music Festival

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, March 28th, 2025

On March 27th, 2025, a collaborative performance will be given by three of the arts disciplines from the Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts in front of the Lucas Theatre in collaboration with the Savannah Music Festival.

Prior to SMF’s presentation of “BalletCollective: Translation” in the Lucas theatre at 8pm on the 27th, Garrison students in grades 5-8 will take over Abercorn Street in front of the Lucas theatre where they will perform from 6:45pm - 7:30pm. Approximately 75 total students from the school’s Glee Club, String Orchestra, and Dance Ensemble will be showcased in the pre-show dance themed performance.

Each ensemble will be featured separately in their own portion of the production, and then collaboratively at times throughout. When asked about the opportunity, Dr. Kristen Donaldson who directs the school’s choirs said, “We are all incredibly excited to have the opportunity to partner with the Savannah Music Festival who has graciously given our students the opportunity to perform in a location with such great community visibility!” Additionally, SMF has also invited each of the performers and their families to attend the Ballet Collective’s performance afterwards in the Lucas Theatre at no cost.

Esther F. Garrison’s Glee Club is led by Dr. Kristen Donaldson, the String Orchestra is conducted by Dr. Brad Behr, and the Dance Ensemble is headed by Ms. Kelly Reed and Ms. Greta Valeyko. Mrs. Aysha Parks helms the school as its principal.
