Inner City Night Shelter Expansion Plans Face Push Back

Some members of a Savannah neighborhood are sharing their concerns on plans to expand a homeless shelter. The Inner City Night Shelter on Arnold Street has served Savannah’s homeless community since 1983. Now the shelter wants to purchase a neighboring lot of land to expand its services.
Tuesday night the Downtown Neighborhood Association held a meeting for people to share their concerns with the shelter and Savannah Police. People living in the nearby Eastern Wharf community say they are worried because the center is considered a low barrier shelter. The shelter accepts adult males and females regardless of drug use or criminal background -- including some sex offenders.
