The City of Port Wentworth will host its 52nd annual Stand Up for America Day Parade and Festival on Saturday, April 26. The festivities will kick off with the parade at 3 p.m. beginning at the U.S. Sugar Savannah Refinery located at 201 Oxnard Dr. in Port Wentworth.
Following the parade, the festival will offer a variety of activities and entertainment for all ages from 4-9 p.m. at 317 Cantyre Street in Port Wentworth. This event will include live music by Andrew Gill and The Lance Stinson Band, food and vendors, a dunk tank and kids’ area plus fireworks at nightfall.
“For over 50 years, Stand Up For America Day has been celebrated in Port Wentworth to honor the freedom, unity and service that is the foundation of our patriotic community,” said Port Wentworth City Manager Steve Davis. “It’s a reminder of what is good, and we look forward to this as the City’s most anticipated event every year.”
The vibrant parade will feature marching bands, creatively decorated floats and local organizations proudly displaying their American spirit. The parade is an excellent opportunity for businesses, organizations, schools and groups to participate and showcase their red, white and blue pride.
This cherished community event promises an unforgettable day filled with patriotism, community spirit and family fun. The Stand Up for America Day Parade and Festival was established in 1971 by former Mayor P.B. Edwards Jr., a decorated World War II veteran, in cooperation with the Port Wentworth Missionary Alliance Church. This event was created to honor and recognize America's service men and women, both past and present, in response to the controversial Vietnam War era. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our soldiers and a celebration of American unity and pride.
Family, friends, residents and visitors are invited to join Port Wentworth’s annual celebration of American heritage and to enjoy a day dedicated to our heroes – past and present.
