City of Port Wentworth Recognized as One of Safest Places to Live in Georgia

The City of Port Wentworth has been recognized as one of Georgia’s safest places to live, ranking 20th in SafeWise’s 2025 Safest Cities report, based on the latest FBI crime statistics data. This ranking shows that Port Wentworth is among the top 23% of Georgia’s safest cities out of 537 statewide, demonstrating the city’s commitment to public safety.
Port Wentworth’s ability to maintain a high safety ranking amidst rapid growth reflects the city council members and leadership’s dedication to dependable law enforcement, strong community engagement, economic prosperity and strategic planning. These elements collectively create an environment where safety is a shared priority and integral to the city’s continued development.

The City of Port Wentworth Police Department (PWPD) offers a pay scale that is competitive with our area and great benefits, including full medical insurance for officers and their families. Port Wentworth maintains a modern, highly trained and well-equipped police department. Its mission is to maintain law and order, protect persons and property, apprehend criminals, direct and control traffic, investigate traffic accidents and enforce all state and City criminal laws.
Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the PWPD is organized into five divisions:
Administration, Investigations, Professional Standards, Patrol and Code Enforcement, and Community Services.
