Monday, April 7th, 2025
The City of Savannah has announced the location of the new Community Center at Windsor Forest will be located at 218 Windsor Road, the site formerly occupied by Woody’s Skate Park. The facility is expected to serve as a public space for community activities and recreation.
“I am excited to move closer to fulfilling our commitment to provide additional amenities for our Southside neighbors,” Mayor Van R. Johnson, II said. “The new Community Center at Windsor Forest will reflect our commitment to preserving the character and history of our neighborhoods while investing in their future.
“The selected location at the old pool and skate park—rooted in the memories of so many—will now serve as a space for connection, growth, and community. Designed to complement the mid-century modern charm of Windsor Forest and centered around the grand oak tree that has stood the test of time, this center will be a place where neighbors gather, families thrive, and our community continues to grow stronger together."
“This is exciting news for this awesome resource in Windsor Forest,” District 6 Alderman Kurtis Purtee said. “This is a great opportunity that will benefit all in our neighborhood by enhancing the quality of life for our community.”
The project comes as part of the Southside/Windsor Forrest Community Recreation Facility initiative. An advisory workgroup has been established to guide the development process.
This group includes representatives from local organizations such as the Windsor Forest Community Association, Windsor Forest Booster Club (Golden Age), Windsor Forest Home Sweet Home, Windsor Forest Garden Club, Windsor Forest Mamas, Friends of Tribble, and Sega Sorba, along with key city personnel.
“The Community Center at Windsor Forest is an important project for the 6th District and for the Windsor Forest community. It’s been a long time coming and I am grateful for the many community members who helped shape the decision-making and led us to a point where we are ready to move forward!” City Manager Jay Melder said. “Congratulations Team Savannah and thank you to City Council and the Windsor Forest Neighborhood on a job well done!”
“The addition of this Community Center at Windsor Forest will enhance our ability to provide the same quality programming and services we offer citywide to the community in Windsor Forest,” Senior Director of Recreation and Leisure Nick Roberts said. “I look forward to working with the community members on the advisory workgroup as we shape the future of this new facility.”
