Effingham Native Maddie Greer Named New Director of the Mars Theatre
The City of Springfield is pleased to announce the appointment of Maddie Greer as Director of the Mars Theatre, effective April 14, 2025.
A native of Effingham County, Greer brings a lifelong passion for the arts and a strong commitment to community engagement. She holds a degree in Multicultural American Literature and Film from the University of Georgia, where she was actively involved in Athens’ vibrant arts scene. Her volunteer work with the Athens Institute for Contemporary Art (ATHICA) helped support the nonprofit’s mission to present innovative contemporary art.
Since returning to Effingham County, Greer has continued to champion local culture through her writing for independent publications including The Savannahian and Savannah Agenda. She also volunteers with Film Biz Recycling, Georgia’s first and only nonprofit prop house and creative reuse center.
As Director of the Mars Theatre, Greer is dedicated to honoring the historic legacy of the venue while expanding its reach through dynamic programming that reflects and celebrates the community. Her vision includes fostering meaningful connections through the arts and strengthening the Mars Theatre’s role as a cultural anchor for Springfield and the surrounding region.
A passionate supporter of local artists and advocate for arts education, Greer is excited to begin this new chapter and looks forward to using the arts as a force for connection, enrichment, and inspiration in the community she calls home.
