Russo's Fresh Seafood Bluffton, a premier fresh retail and wholesale seafood market serving the Lowcountry, hosted its annual All-You-Can-Eat Oyster Roast and exceeded expectations by raising a remarkable $2,100 for Palmetto Animal League (PAL). The event, held earlier this year, proved to be more than just a delicious gathering; it was a heartwarming community affair where hundreds of seafood enthusiasts convened, the air filled with the savory scent of roasting oysters and joyful conversations, all in support of local animal welfare champions, PAL. This unexpectedly generous donation directly supported PAL's vital mission of rescuing animals in need and providing them a second chance at finding loving forever homes.
For the second consecutive year, the proceeds from Russo's popular oyster roast benefitted Palmetto Animal League (PAL), a dedicated no-kill adoption center committed to fostering a community where every neglected animal receives a second chance at life. PAL operates with a compassionate approach to animal welfare, proactive relocation efforts, and innovative strategies to address pet overpopulation.
"Being an avid dog lover and having seen the positive impact of last year's event, we knew we wanted to partner with PAL once again. We're proud to support their crucial work," said Charles Russo III, owner of Russo’s Fresh Seafood Bluffton and a third-generation fishmonger.
Attendees at this year's event indulged in an all-you-can-eat feast of perfectly roasted oysters. The lively atmosphere was enhanced by live music from the Eric Culberson Band, delightful treats and toys from Woof Gang Bakery, flavorful seasonings and stylish swag from local entrepreneurs, the Shrimp Sisters, and even a bounce house that entertained the children.
PAL's team was present with adorable adoptable dogs, hoping to connect them with loving forever families. “We were absolutely thrilled and deeply grateful for this event and the surprising amount raised. This generous contribution will go a long way in ensuring our animals remain safe, healthy, and ready for their forever homes. We cannot thank Russo’s Fresh Seafood Bluffton enough for their continued and impactful support,” expressed Palmetto Animal League Marketing Coordinator Lindsay Perry.
A new and highly successful addition to this year's event was the opportunity to purchase a cup of the Russo family's renowned crab stew, with 100% of those proceeds directly contributing to the PAL donation.
"We made a huge pot of stew and were completely sold out within an hour and a half of the event kicking off," said Russo. "Our family has always believed in the power of community, and we're grateful for opportunities like this to give back with joy and enthusiasm. Thank you to everyone who came out to shuck
