Savannah Tree Foundation Announces Green Week

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, April 21st, 2025

The Savannah Tree Foundation (STF) is celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day with a week-long series of exciting fundraising events, including the planting of their 6,000th tree since the organization was founded in 1982.

The festivities making up STF’s Green Week include a variety of unique events designed to bring the community together in support of Savannah's urban canopy. From a nature-themed show at Front Porch Improv to a guided paddle on the Ebenezer Creek, a canopy crawl to caring for the Candler Oak, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, all while raising funds to further STF’s strategic plan, including our goal of planting 10,000 trees by 2030.

Green Week Highlights Include:

  • Canopy Crawl: Explore Savannah’s lush downtown tree canopy on foot with a Certified Arborist and your favorite beverage. (Tuesday, April 22)

  • Ebenezer Creek Paddle: A three-hour guided trip through the unique Cypress and Tupelo forests with Savannah Canoe & Kayak. (Friday, April 25)

  • Jokes for Oaks: A nature-themed improv comedy show at Front Porch Improv. (Saturday, April 26)

  • Yoga Under the Candler Oak: A peaceful and rejuvenating yoga session held in the shade of Savannah's most famous Live Oak. (Sunday, April 27)

  • Virtual Penny Raffle: tiered raffle tickets correspond with unique packages designed for each tier. (April 22 – April 28; website coming soon)

“We are excited to celebrate the 6,000th tree planting and grateful to our many partners and peers at the City of Savannah, Chatham County, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Garden City, Tybee, and Bloomingdale who have supported STF tree plantings in their communities. We look forward to continuing these partnerships as we strive to reach our goal of planting 4,000 more trees in the next five years,” said Leigh Acevedo, Interim Executive Director of the Savannah Tree Foundation.

All proceeds from Green Week events will benefit the Savannah Tree Foundation’s ongoing mission to grow and protect Savannah’s tree canopy. Funds raised will help support future tree planting initiatives, educational programs, the STF Tree Nursery, and advocacy efforts to protect the city's urban forest.
