In an exciting step toward ensuring long-term sustainability, The Current GA has welcomed Christopher Sweat as the newsroom’s Development Manager.
In the four years since its launch as Georgia’s only nonprofit accountability news organization, The Current GA has seen substantial growth in individual donations and foundation grant support. Sweat will leverage his experience in strategic marketing, communications, brand development and event planning to expand this growth.
“We are excited to have Christopher join us at The Current GA,” said Chief Revenue Officer Jeffrey Woolverton. “His skills and expertise in the communications sector — as well as his direct knowledge of Coastal Georgia’s communities — are essential to help expand our fundraising efforts. With Christopher on board, we’re confident in our ability to build more relationships and sustainably grow supporters of the journalism that matters most to our community.”
Christopher’s career spans roles in journalism, media and nonprofit leadership. A native of Pierce County, he has played a key role in shaping brand identities and community development efforts in Savannah and Coastal Georgia, earning multiple awards for design, along with recognition from the University of Georgia Alumni Association.
Known for his collaborative approach and ability to build strong relationships, Christopher is passionate about connecting with communities and helping organizations strengthen their impact.
At The Current GA, Christopher will manage all donor relations and communication efforts. “In today’s challenging media landscape, we expect Christopher’s expertise in strategic marketing to be an invaluable asset to our organization,” said Woolverton.
