Georgia DOT to Host Public Information Open House for the Proposed I-16 from I-95 to SR 67 Widening Project

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, June 2nd, 2025

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will host a Public Information Open House (PIOH) and 30-day comment period for the proposed Interstate 16 Widening from I-95 to State Route (SR) 67 project (P.I. No. 0020168 and 0020739) in Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, and Effingham counties. This PIOH gives the public an opportunity to review preliminary design concepts and project materials and submit feedback.

The proposed I-16 Widening from I-95 to SR 67 project is designed to enhance safety, improve mobility, and support regional growth along the corridor. The improvements include widening approximately 32.5 miles of I-16 from two to three lanes in each direction, realigning existing lanes toward the median, reconstructing wider shoulders adjacent to the relocated travel lanes, and improving substandard pavement conditions along the corridor.

Additionally, 20 bridges at 10 locations will be widened or replaced. Right-of-way (ROW)acquisition is not anticipated for the project.

The project team will host two in-person opportunities for the public to review the projects’ conceptual designs, latest project information, and ask questions of designated subject-matter experts in attendance. There will be no formal presentation. The public is encouraged to attend one of the following events:
