Susan Mason Catering Celebrates 40 Years of Creating Elegant, Southern-Inspired Food for Special Occasions

Susan Mason Catering, a top catering company based in Savannah, Ga., is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. Since 1985, this acclaimed company has catered thousands of weddings, celebrations, dinner parties, celebrity soirees and corporate events, serving elegant food that effortlessly blends Southern and French influences.
Originally from Dothan, Ala., Mason started her business in 1985 with $5,000, shortly after getting divorced and moving from Spartanburg, S.C. to Savannah, Ga. Inspired by Martha Stewart – as well as her mother and grandmother, who were both talented cooks – this aspiring entrepreneur launched a buzzworthy catering company dedicated to handcrafting creative, imaginative food designed to make any special event shine.
“I’m deeply honored to celebrate 40 years working with my incredible team and serving my loyal clients,” said Susan Mason, founder and owner of Susan Mason Catering. “I knew nothing about running a business when I started my company. I’ve learned so much and would like to inspire other women to pursue their dreams.”
Mason particularly enjoys building relationships with clients and is grateful to have had so many incredible opportunities over the past four decades. She was invited to prepare a meal at the iconic James Beard House in New York City and has catered special events for dozens of celebrities, including Tom Hanks, Martha Stewart, Clint Eastwood, Demi Moore, Paula Deen, Alec Baldwin, Tom Ford, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Jacobs, Jane Fonda and Oscar de la Renta.
Known for her signature crab cakes, tomato sandwiches and parmesan cheese rounds, this talented caterer published Susan Mason’s Silver Service in 2006, which features more than 80 recipes as well as countless personal stories. This breezy, engaging cookbook has become a local favorite, showcasing elegnt yet approachable Savannah-inspired recipes.

A proud mother and grandmother, Mason has been working since the age of 14 and is also a breast cancer survivor and Savannah icon who is known for her dazzling, age-defying personal style. Whether she’s catering an intimate dinner party for 20 or a black-tie wedding for 1,000, she specializes in delicious, beautifully presented food that is always made with love.
The Susan Mason Catering team includes Head Chefs Donna Edwards and Christine Ragland, Prep Cook and Server Annette Pryor, Prep Cook and Bartender/Server Greg Williams, Front House Manager Mike Flatt, Assistant Mary Ann Williams and Client Service Specialists Melissa Brown and Brandi O’Brien. Together, they plan and execute sumptuous, multi-course meals for Savannah’s finest special events and for top clients across the country.
