Vertical Construction is Underway for Port Wentworth's Anchor Park
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025
The City of Port Wentworth hosted elected officials and staff for a tour of Anchor Park’s future extensive facilities. Vertical construction has begun within the 150-acre recreational sports and entertainment park which is slated to open in 2026. At the heart of Anchor Park the new Ice Cove will serve as a training ground for the region’s professional ice hockey team, the Savannah Ghost Pirates. These training facilities will be open to the public, providing two regulation-sized ice rinks (which can be covered for events), a restaurant with a bar, and a retail shop, among other amenities. A 5,200-seat covered amphitheater will serve the region as a new venue for a range of events and concerts and the park will also feature a variety of multi-use fields and courts for sporting activities including pickleball, softball, baseball, and soccer. There will also be a farmers’ market and a recreational gym.
Port Wentworth’s Mayor Gary Norton, Mayor Pro Tem Gabrielle Nelson, Council members Rufus Bright, Mark Stephens, Thomas Barbee, and Shawn Randerwala were in attendance along with city leaders and staff to tour and learn about this significant milestone in the construction process.
“It’s ‘Anchors Away’ for Port Wentworth’s signature development as we are officially on our journey to the completion of Anchor Park with vertical construction already underway,” said City Manager, Steve Davis. “Anchor Park will be an anchor for our community and the wider region offering the highest quality facilities for all to enjoy which will bring more prosperity and a higher quality of life for people in Port Wentworth.”
