Caleb Poppell, Director of Operations for Daniel Reed Hospitality in Savannah, has earned the prestigious Advanced Sommelier Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas on his very first attempt.

This notoriously rigorous and demanding three-part exam begins with a written theory assessment, which is a prerequisite for progressing to the practical and tasting portions. These sections test hospitality, high-pressure service, the Business of the Sommelier and a timed six-wine blind tasting, boasting a pass rate of roughly 25%, with many candidates requiring multiple efforts.

Poppell's achievement is even more extraordinary considering his track record: he has passed every prior certification step along his CMS journey on the first try, including scoring a perfect 100 on the Introductory Sommelier Exam -- a feat few sommeliers ever claim, demonstrating his talent, dedication and depth of knowledge.

With approximately 900 Advanced Sommeliers worldwide, Poppell now stands among this elite group and plans to pursue the ultimate accolade next: the Master Sommelier diploma. His passion, discipline and brilliance promise to not only elevate his own career but also shine a spotlight on Savannah as a rising force in the world of wine.

Jamie Durrence, Managing Partner of Daniel Reed Hospitality, said: "Caleb's determination, drive, passion and commitment to continued self-development is something to be admired, valued and very much appreciated as a team member of our organization. We are grateful to have Caleb as a valued member of our team."

Daniel Reed Hospitality owns and operates a number of Savannah's top restaurants, including Local11Ten, Perch, The Public, Soho South, Artillery and Franklin's.
