Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, July 14th, 2025

Today, The City of Port Wentworth held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new fire headquarters. Fire Chief Lance Moore and city leadership along with Mayor and City Council, residents, and local business leaders gathered to celebrate this exciting addition to the Port Wentworth fire department. Firefighters were honored with the promotion of five Lieutenants and Port Wentworth welcomed the new Engine 401 into service with a push-in ceremony, where firefighters pushed Engine 401 into the bay of the station, officially inducting the engine as a part of the Port Wentworth community.

“The new fire station is an exciting addition to the City of Port Wentworth and is another demonstration of our continued investment in our fast-growing city,” said City Manager Steve Davis. “With an expanding population comes an obligation to keep our residents safe and we take this seriously. This community celebration will also give us the opportunity to thank our firefighters who risk their lives to protect us.”

After breaking ground in April 2024, the new station is now equipped to provide 24/7 emergency services to the City of Port Wentworth. The 18,000 square foot station features four bays and a training classroom housing the emergency operations center. Located right off Highway 30 in the Northwest section of Port Wentworth, the station will allow better access to Interstate 95 and faster service to the City of Port Wentworth.

“Opening this new Fire Station Headquarters—the first in over 20 years—is a proud and meaningful moment for our department and the community we serve,” said Chief Lance Moore. “This station isn’t just a building; it’s a promise to our residents that we’re here, ready, and better equipped than ever to protect and respond. It reflects years of support from our neighbors, city leaders, and local partners. We’re grateful for that trust, and we look forward to serving from this new home for generations to come.”

The City of Port Wentworth Fire Department is an ISO Class 3 department. Staff and personnel are honored to serve the citizens of Port Wentworth. Stations are staffed with both full-time and part-time personnel, to ensure that emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
