Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia announced today that a $32,000 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation will support its programs to more effectively reach children and families facing hunger in Coastal Georgia.

Support from this grant will go toward the Kids Cafe program at Second Harvest. Created as a grassroots effort by concerned citizens in Savannah, Kids Cafe has since become the nation’s third-largest child hunger feeding program. Kids who participate in the program are provided with a hot, nutritious meal after school along with supervision, tutoring, and enrichment.

Food insecurity exists in every county, parish, and borough in the United States. It impacts people regardless of background, demographics, location, or disability. In Coastal Georgia, one in 6 people, including one in 5 children, face hunger. This grant will help us to increase our capacity and provide more children with the nourishment they need.

“We are incredibly grateful for Morgan Stanley’s generous donation,” said Mary Jane Crouch, Executive Director of Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia. “Their support directly helps us provide thousands of meals through our Kids Cafe, which ensures that children have access to hot, nutritious meals after school. For many, it’s the only evening meal they receive. When children are nourished, they are better able to focus, learn, and thrive in the classroom. This partnership not only feeds hungry children—it fuels their potential and helps build a stronger future for our entire community.”

Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is one of 39 Feeding America® partner food banks receiving funding from the Morgan Stanley Foundation this year, as part of its long-standing commitment to supporting children’s health in communities across the country. Last year, the Morgan Stanley Foundation committed $8 million in additional funding to Feeding America, bringing the firm’s total funding to more than $50 million since 2009 to support local hunger-relief programs that deliver food assistance and nutritious meals to children and families.

“We are proud to support the Feeding America network of food banks and their critical work to reach communities facing hunger across the country,” said Joan Steinberg, President of the Morgan Stanley Foundation.
