Savannah OPERA Presents Verdi’s “Rigoletto” – Saturday, Aug. 17

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Savannah OPERA will present Verdi's “Rigoletto” at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Asbury Memorial Church in Savannah, located at 1008 E. Henry Street. This performance is featured as part of the 13th annual Savannah VOICE Festival taking place Aug. 7-17 in celebration of 25 years of the Milnes VOICE Programs.

One of Sherrill Milnes’ marquee roles, Verdi’s opera tells the story of “Rigoletto”, the hunchbacked, sharp-tongued jester to a playboy Duke. Used to mocking the hapless husbands and fathers of the Duke’s conquests, the tables are turned on Rigoletto when the Duke sets his sights on the jester’s own daughter, Gilda. Verdi is a master of great theatre with some of the most recognizable arias and ensembles in the operatic repertoire. Performed in Italian, the opera will feature supertitles with the English translation in lyrics.

“With Verdi’s score and a cast of exceptional vocal talent, “Rigoletto” is a tribute to the enduring strength of the Milnes VOICE legacy,” said Evelina Erickson, Executive Director of the Savannah VOICE Festival. “It’s a must-see event for anyone who not only loves classical opera but who enjoys music and drama."

Tickets for “Rigoletto” start at $53 for standard seating and $75 for premium seating.
