Asbury Memorial Announces 2025 God on Broadway Lineup
Thursday, September 18th, 2025
Asbury Memorial Church has announced the lineup for their popular God on Broadway workshop series, which will take place during services every Sunday this October. These services will combine sermons and liturgy with the themes and music from popular Broadway shows. Sunday worship services will begin at 11:15 a.m. at Asbury Memorial Church located on 1008 E. Henry Street.
God on Broadway will kick off Sunday, Oct. 5 by using elements of the musical, Company, a reflection of modern friendship, loneliness and the importance of companionship. It will be followed by The Civil War on Oct. 12, a musical retelling of the American Civil War through multiple viewpoints. The series continues with Suffs on Oct. 19, highlighting the women’s suffrage movement in a celebration of perseverance, justice, and equality. The series will conclude with Mary Poppins on Oct. 26, a fan-favorite musical that follows the books by P.L. Travers combined with music created by the Sherman Brothers, and filled with lessons on kindness and whimsical imagination.
Under the direction of minister of music Ray Ellis, the Asbury Choir will perform songs that match the themes of the shows, and the scripture selected for that particular Sunday. The sermons, preached by senior pastor Rev. Billy Hester, will be inspired by both the Biblical texts and the plots of the shows.
"Something profound happens when Theatre and Theology are brought together in a meaningful way,” said Asbury Memorial Rev. Billy Hester. “Each musical offers something unique, and we look forward to sharing this experience with the community. Everyone is welcome!”
The God on Broadway series is free and open to the public. For more information or to view segments from past worship services from the series, please visit the God on Broadway page at www.asburymemorial.org.
