East Savannah United (ESU) today announced it received a $25,000 grant from the Day Family Foundation to support the organization’s Community Quarterback role and ongoing initiatives in Savannah’s Eastside. The grant will also fund ESU’s leadership development, as well as a new collaboration plan with Brightside Child and Family Advocacy and Goodwill of Southeast Georgia. This collaborative partnership will prioritize foster youth, transition-age youth, and foster care families in East Savannah.
“We are honored to have financial support from the Day Family Foundation for ESU’s mission to improve outcomes for the children and families living in Savannah’s Eastside,” said Derek Mallow, Executive Director of ESU. “Joining with community partners to provide systems that give families a real foundation for growth will help make much-needed transformational change possible in these historically high poverty neighborhoods.”
East Savannah United works to ensure residents of all income levels have access to safe, quality homes, while supporting children and young adults with the tools they need to learn, lead, and succeed. Joining with community partners like Goodwill of Southeast Georgia and Brightside Child and Family Advocacy, ESU will help facilitate youth-focused mentorship and engagement programs, job readiness training and employment connections, as well as small business support and entrepreneurship resources.
“We’re proud to support East Savannah United and its mission to improve families’ lives through affordable housing, youth opportunity, and community wellness,” said Ashley Minnich, President of the Day Family Foundation. “Trustees of the foundation are excited to give to a collaborative effort to advance the shared and complementary goals of East Savannah United, Goodwill of Southeast Georgia, and Brightside Child and Family Advocacy, after leaders from all three inspiring organizations and trustees of the foundation came together to learn at the powerful Purpose Built Communities' 2025 conference in Houston.”
