Donovan Rehab Hosts 4th Annual Trunk or Treat for Local Families

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, October 14th, 2025

Donovan Rehab, a leading pediatric speech and occupational therapy facility in Hinesville, Georgia, is excited to announce its 4th Annual Trunk or Treat, welcoming clients and families from the surrounding community for a fun, safe, and inclusive Halloween celebration.

Donovan Rehab’s team of dedicated therapists goes beyond therapy sessions to create meaningful opportunities for children to engage socially, develop communication skills, and connect with peers. In addition to the Trunk or Treat, the clinic promotes literacy through its Read Across America celebration and empowers parents of children with special needs through its P.E.P. (Professionals Empowering Parents) support group.

“The Trunk or Treat gives our families a small, familiar, and safe space where children can truly be themselves,” said Melissa Donovan, owner of Donovan Rehab. “Many of our families told us they avoided large community events in the past because their children became overwhelmed or overstimulated. We wanted to change that.”

What began as a small event with about 50 children has now grown to welcome more than a hundred each year — and the numbers continue to rise. Each year, the Trunk or Treat features a creative theme to make the experience interactive and educational. Past themes have included “Book Adventures” and “Disney Magic,” and this year’s theme is “Game Night”, featuring favorites like Candy Land, Twister, Monopoly, and Go Fish.

“We don’t just want the kids to collect candy and go home,” Donovan added. “We want them to have a fun, social experience they’ll remember. Through these themed games, children get to practice communication skills — whether they’re signing for candy, using AAC devices, or politely saying, ‘May I have candy, please?’”

Community partners such as the Hinesville Fire Department, local police, Kiwanis, Unique Puzzle Pack, EFMP, ABA offices, Reel Dads Go Fishing, and many others continue to support the event, creating a welcoming environment where children can engage with community helpers in a positive, comfortable way.

“It’s truly a blessing when our community comes together to do something special for the kids,” Donovan said. “We couldn’t do it without our incredible partners and the Donovan Rehab families who make this event possible every year.”
