Thursday, October 30th, 2025

Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) will host a Veterans Day Program from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the school’s gymnasium, located at 705 E. Anderson St., Savannah. The event will honor the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces and highlight student performances and projects inspired by their service.

The program will feature guest speakers, musical performances by SCA’s Upper School Strings Ensemble and Lower School Choirs, and a display of student artwork dedicated to honoring veterans. In addition, winners of the school’s Veteran Day Essay Competition will be recognized and will share their award-winning essays during the program. Following the ceremony, a reception serving snacks will be held for all guests. As part of SCA’s efforts to recognize Veterans Day, students have raised funds to donate to Disabled American Veterans (DAV). DAV helps veterans of every generation address their challenges and achieve personal victories, great and small, to better thrive in civilian life.

“Veterans Day provides an important opportunity for our students to reflect on the sacrifices made by the brave individuals who have defended our freedoms,” said Barry Lollis, CEO of Savannah Classical Academy. “We are proud to host this annual event which allows our students to express their gratitude through art, music, and words while connecting with the veterans in our community.”

SCA welcomes veterans, families, and community members to attend this special celebration.

SCA is the only K-12 school charter school which is open to all students residing in Chatham County and is funded with public funds as provided by a charter that allows it to operate autonomously under a board of parents and community members. It is the philosophy of Savannah Classical Academy that all students benefit from a rigorous, content-rich, educational program that develops academic potential and personal character. Significant superior scoring and the recent accolades in being named a Literacy Leader and Math Leader demonstrate the excellent results of this approach. The school provides an environment that fosters academic excellence through the habits of thoroughness, the willingness to work, and the perseverance to complete difficult tasks. Through a defined traditional, classical curriculum, students are prepared to become active, responsible members of their community. The school is open to all students living in Chatham County via a lottery. For more information about Savannah Classical Academy, please visit www.savannahclassicalacademy.org.
