Friday, October 17th, 2025

Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) once again reports excellent results for the charter school as the 2025 Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS) scores have been released by The Georgia Department of Education. These assessments measure student achievement in 3rd grade through High School in a range of disciplines including science, math, reading, English language arts, and social studies.

For 2025 SCA students outscored the county public school system and the state of Georgia on all twenty-two achievement assessments. In addition to outperforming traditional public schools, these results demonstrate that SCA’s student achievement scores mean that SCA is the leading charter school in the district.  SCA scored exceptionally well in reading and math across all grades, reflecting the school’s commitment to literacy and numeracy. SCA’s reading proficiency was excellent in all grades with 97.2% in 3rd grade and 93.8% in high school.  In SCA’s math proficiency, the average percentage from K-12 grades was 75.1% and 100% in eighth grade, demonstrating that early enrollment and continuing attendance of this K-12 charter school, leads to consistent increases in proficiency as students advance through the grades.

“SCA students and teachers continue to excel and are clearly leaders within the area as well as the state of Georgia,” said SCA Chief Executive Officer Barry Lollis. “Our student outcomes have also shown a steady increase and improvement over the last five years which reflects the commitment of both students and teachers as well as our families who support us in ensuring that our students succeed academically and will develop into productive citizens. I look forward to continuing to build on our students’ success within our K-12 charter school.”

The Georgia Milestones Assessment System is a comprehensive summative assessment program and represents a single system of summative assessments that span all three levels of the state's educational system – elementary, middle, and high school. The system is designed to send consistent signals about students' preparedness for the next level, be it the next grade, course, or endeavor, such as entering college or beginning a career after leaving the K-12 educational system.

SCA is the only K-12 school charter school which is open to all students residing in Chatham County and is funded with public funds as provided by a charter that allows it to operate autonomously under a board of parents and community members. It is the philosophy of Savannah Classical Academy that all students benefit from a rigorous, content-rich, educational program that develops academic potential and personal character. Significant superior scoring and the recent accolades in being named a Literacy Leader and Math Leader demonstrate the excellent results of this approach. The school provides an environment that fosters academic excellence through the habits of thoroughness, the willingness to work, and the perseverance to complete difficult tasks. Through a defined traditional, classical curriculum, students are prepared to become active, responsible members of their community. The school is open to all students living in Chatham County via a lottery. For more information about Savannah Classical Academy, please visit www.savannahclassicalacademy.org.
