City Partners with Second Harvest to Distribute 1,400 Food Boxes
Wednesday, November 12th, 2025
The City of Savannah is partnering with Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia to distribute 1,400 food boxes across all six Alderman Districts over three days beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 12 to help support households impacted by the reduction in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The City will distribute 234 food boxes at two locations in different districts each of the three days ensuring equitable access and maximizing community reach. Recipients must be City of Savannah residents and ages 18 or older. One food box will be available per household while supplies last.
SNAP provides food-purchasing assistance for low-income individuals and families. Approximately, 14,736 households in Savannah, 45,000 households in Chatham County, and over 1.4 million Georgians receive public assistance through SNAP benefits programs. Due to the recent U.S. Federal Government shutdown not all SNAP recipients received their full benefits in November.
The City of Savannah announced last week they are partnering with Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and the United Way of the Coastal Empire to provide assistance to those in need. The City has provided a $50,000 grant to Second Harvest to assist with the pre-packaged food boxes.
