Dewitt Tilton Group, an award-winning design-build commercial and industrial construction company, continued its annual Thanksgiving tradition today by serving a complete holiday meal to the City of Pooler Fire-Rescue team.

In a new addition to the nearly decade-old tradition, the company also launched the "Built to Last" Service Award, honoring a firefighter whose character, dedication and service reflect extraordinary commitment to the community.
The inaugural recipient of the award was Pooler Fire Chief Wade Simmons, who was recognized for his service and contributions to strengthening the safety and resilience of the Pooler community.

Dewitt Tilton Group established the award this year to deepen its long-standing commitment to the Pooler Fire-Rescue team, seeking to spotlight individual acts of bravery, leadership and service that define the department.
“Our firefighters embody what it means to be ‘built to last’—steadfast, courageous and committed to protecting others even in the most demanding moments,” said Chris Tilton, president of Dewitt Tilton Group. “After many years of celebrating Thanksgiving together, we felt it was time to honor not just the department as a whole, but the exceptional individuals within it. This award is our way of recognizing those quiet heroes whose everyday actions strengthen the foundation of our community.”

Hosted at the City of Pooler Fire-Rescue Headquarters, the Thanksgiving lunch featured a classic Southern spread. The dessert table was enhanced by a donation from Savannah’s Candy Kitchen, which contributed its popular pie tarts, sharing local sweetness with the firefighters who serve the community year-round.
Pooler Fire Chief Wade Simmons emphasized the importance of the new award and the ongoing tradition.

“Events like this carry a tremendous impact,” Simmons said. “Knowing that Dewitt Tilton Group not only continues to stand behind our team year after year, but also took the step to establish a new award to honor our firefighters, means more than they know. Today’s recognition and fellowship were deeply felt by every person in the room.”

What began in 2018 as an expression of gratitude has grown into one of the department's most meaningful annual traditions. With the establishment of the “Built to Last” Award, Dewitt Tilton Group has added a new dimension to its commitment to honoring the city’s firefighters, reflecting the company’s core values of service, partnership and building a stronger community.
