Thomas & Hutton (T&H), a 100%-employee-owned, privately held
professional services firm known for its award-winning culture and nearly 80 years of shaping communities across
the Southeast, is proud to announce that President and Chief Executive Officer Sam McCachern, PE, has been
named to Georgia Trend magazine’s 2025 Georgia 500: Most Influential Leaders list. This marks McCachern’s third
appearance on the list, recognized consecutively since 2022.
The annual Georgia 500 recognizes the state’s most impactful leaders across business, government, education, and
civic life—individuals driving progress and strengthening communities statewide. McCachern’s continued inclusion
reflects his strategic leadership, professional excellence, and steadfast commitment to community development.
As CEO and President, McCachern leads Thomas & Hutton’s strategic growth and vision and has guided the firm
through a period of unprecedented expansion from its coastal foundation in Georgia and South Carolina to a
footprint that now spans the greater Southeast. That growth has included several strategic acquisitions and new
offices, broadening the firm’s ability to deliver innovative engineering, planning, and design solutions.
“It’s an honor to be included once again,” McCachern said. “Record investment across the state is creating
extraordinary opportunities, and our team at Thomas & Hutton is actively contributing to that momentum. Their
commitment—both to their work and to their communities—is what makes recognition like this possible.”
A licensed Professional Engineer and NC State University graduate, McCachern began his career with Thomas &
Hutton in 1985. Beyond his professional achievements, he is a respected civic leader, actively involved with
organizations such as East Savannah United, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Savannah,
United Way of the Coastal Empire, and the Savannah Technical College Foundation. His leadership and service
have earned numerous honors, including the 2024 Craig Harney Spirit of Philanthropy Award from United Way of
the Coastal Empire, induction into NC State’s CCEE Alumni Hall of Fame in 2023, and recognition as a 2023
Laureate in Junior Achievement’s Savannah Business Hall of Fame.
