Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (GRNMSF) has been selected by Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. to receive a grant to support the continuation and growth of Gray’s Reef educational and sustainability programs. The Gray’s Reef Chapter of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation promotes community engagement, advocacy, education, and conservation of the Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary.
Sarah Porter, Executive Director of GRNMSF said, “Gray’s Reef is immensely grateful to Gulfstream for supporting our organization. Grants like these support Gray’s Reef’s mission and will help ensure our oceans for generations.”
The Gray's Reef Ocean Discovery Center (ODC) offers free programs, activities, and opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, discover, and connect with Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary. GRNMSF will be hosting the ODC’s reopening celebration on Saturday, February 28. The public is invited to view the newly reimagined, museum-quality exhibits and enjoy an exciting, family-friendly sustainability block party in the heart of downtown Savannah. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the center will start at 11 a.m. followed by “The Earth is Blue” Block Party until 3 p.m.
Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary is located 19 miles east of Sapelo Island off Georgia’s coast and protects 22 square miles of ocean habitats. The sanctuary is teeming with marine life, including more than 200 fish species, and is part of the endangered North Atlantic right whale’s calving ground as well as a refuge for loggerhead sea turtles.
