Savannah Technical College, in partnership with The Manufacturing Institute’s Heroes MAKE America (HMA) initiative, recently celebrated a milestone in workforce development by honoring graduates from three distinct HMA SkillBridge training cohorts. This event marked a first for the program, as it included the inaugural graduating class of the Fast Track Automation & Robotics program, alongside graduates from the Fast Track Logistics and Fast Track Airframe & Powerplant Prep (A&P Prep) tracks.

The graduation represents more than just completing a curriculum—it signifies a major transition for service members moving from military service into civilian careers. Graduates have translated their military training and experience into high-demand technical skills, directly addressing workforce needs in the Coastal Empire’s growing manufacturing and aviation sectors.

Launched in April, the Fast Track A&P Prep course is a six-week intensive program designed to accelerate participants toward earning their FAA Aviation Mechanic certification. Graduates from this course enter the workforce at a crucial time, providing essential talent for aviation leaders such as Gulfstream Aerospace. Meanwhile, graduates from the Fast Track Automation & Robotics program are prepared to fill roles in advanced manufacturing facilities, and Fast Track Logistics graduates are equipped to manage complex supply chains driving the regional economy.

“These programs are a dynamic response to the evolving demands of American manufacturing,” said Ryan W. Foley, President of Savannah Technical College. “Our partnership with Heroes MAKE America ensures service members and their families have access to cutting-edge training and opens opportunities for these folks right here at home.”

“The Manufacturing Institute congratulates all the students who will start the New Year with life-changing skills and certifications for in-demand careers,” said Amy Thomas, National Director of Heroes MAKE America. “This milestone graduation reflects the strength of our partnership with Savannah Technical College and the potential for transitioning service members to start their second career in manufacturing. We wish them well and are excited to welcome them into the manufacturing workforce.”

For many transitioning service members, these programs bridge the gap between military experience and civilian careers. The training not only provides technical proficiency but also builds confidence, direction, and a sense of professional belonging in the civilian sector. By validating military skills with industry-recognized certifications, the program removes uncertainty from career transitions and assures employers of candidates’ readiness from day one.

The success of these cohorts underscores the importance of industry partnerships and donor support in developing skilled talent. Through these investments, partners help prepare job-ready veterans whose expertise strengthens the manufacturing workforce and supports the growth of Georgia’s regional economy.
