NY Times Bestselling Author, Andrew Carroll, War Letters Project To Visit Savannah for Lecture and “House Calls”

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, January 12th, 2026

The Learning Center at Senior Citizens Inc. (SCI) is hosting a very special event on Thursday, January 15 from 2:00-3:30 p.m.with The New York Times bestselling author and historian Andrew Carroll talking about the war letters project he created more than 25 years ago.

Since its founding, the project has since identified, collected, and archived more than 250,000 correspondences from every conflict in U.S. history, starting with the American Revolution and continuing up to the present day, and every war in between. Carroll will be bringing several of the actual and most extraordinary letters he has collected.

He  is increasingly known as "the historian who makes house calls" because he often visits the homes of people with war letters to donate. If anyone, even people not planning to attend the public program, has a war letter to donate to Andy's project and would like him to come to your home, please contact Roger Smith at Senior Citizens, Inc, [email protected].

Several local newspapers have written about Andy's "house calls," and just this past July 4th weekend, ABC News  ran this story about one particular visit:
