Telfair Museums Announces Restructure
Monday, January 12th, 2026
Telfair Museums, which includes the Jepson Center, the Owens-
Thomas House, and Telfair Academy, today announced the completion of a restructuring to balance its resources with the needs of the constituencies it serves. As part of the restructuring, positions have been added in areas focused on building and supporting the member base, while positions have been eliminated that were not as critical to a more focused strategy. Importantly, community outreach and educational programs will not be affected. In total, headcount has been reduced by approximately 15 percent. Telfair museums, like many nonprofit organizations across the nation, has been facing reduced funding in the face of rising costs. Dr. David Brenneman, Executive Director/CEO says,
“This was a painful, but necessary action, and a great deal of thought went into the decision. We pride ourselves on our high caliber, professional staff, and it is hard to lose colleagues and friends. Our focus now must be on driving the revenues of the organization with more of the quality programs and exhibits our community has come to expect, as well as developing new, robust revenue streams. In that regard, we have created two new positions, Director of Institutional Advancement and Director of External Affairs, which will focus on capitalizing on the Telfair unique assets.
The Executive Committee of the Board unanimously approved the restructuring and thanked David for his
leadership during a difficult process.
