The City of Savannah is proud to announce that Alderman Kurtis Purtee has been appointed to serve on the National League of Cities (NLC) 2026 Public Safety and Crime Prevention (PSCP) Federal Advocacy Committee.

Alderman Purtee was elected to a one-year term and will help provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on critical public safety issues facing local governments nationwide. These priorities include disaster preparedness and recovery, community-oriented policing, violence prevention, emergency communications, and federal grant programs that support local first responders. The appointment was announced by NLC President Kevin Kramer, Councilmember of Louisville, Kentucky.

“I am honored to once again be appointed to this committee,” said Alderman Purtee. “Our work extends opportunity and federal dollars allocated directly to municipal police and fire departments across the nation. This is one tool that helps keep our communities safer.”

As a member of the PSCP Committee, Alderman Purtee will play an active role in shaping NLC’s federal policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s cities, towns, and villages before Congress and the President’s Administration — while also ensuring Savannah’s voice is represented in national public safety conversations.

“For Savannah, this appointment means our city has a seat at the table where key federal public safety policies are discussed,” Purtee added. “It strengthens our ability to advocate for resources that support our police officers, firefighters, and first responders, and it ensures that the needs of growing cities like ours are part of the national dialogue.”

The 2026 Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee will be led by Chair Mark Myers, Mayor of Greenwood, Indiana, and Vice Chairs Rudy Locklear, Councilman of Pembroke, North Carolina, and Lisa Ford, Councilor of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
