Live Oak Public Library Southwest Chatham Branch Will Screen "Are You a Librarian?"

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, February 12th, 2026

Join Live Oak Public Library After Hours Tuesday, February 17th for an exclusive Savannah preview of "Are You a Librarian?," an upcoming historical documentary that uncovers the hidden legacy of Black librarians.

Following the film, its director and producer, Rodney Freeman, will join Live Oak Public Library Executive Director Lola DeWitt for an engaging conversation about the film and the role of libraries and librarians in America.

“As a librarian and archivist, I’ve watched important Black stories sit untouched in archives—forgotten or overlooked," said Freeman. Are You a Librarian? is a personal mission to bring those stories forward. It’s not just about honoring the past; it’s about inspiring a new generation to take up the mantle of literacy, freedom, and truth in an age where those very principles are under attack.”

This event is free and open to the public. Doors open a 6:15 PM. The event begins at 6:30 PM.

The Southwest Chatham Library is located at 14097 Abercorn Street, in Savannah. Free and ample parking is available.

The screening is one of many programs and events for people of all ages at LOPL celebrating Black History Month. For a full schedule of events and recommended reading, go to Black History Month With Live Oak Public Library
