Monday, March 2nd, 2026
Live Oak Public Library welcomes Adam Berenbak as Special Collections Manager, a newly created position, to the system.
Berenbak, an archives specialist, joins the library from the Center for Legislative Archives, National Archives & Records Administration in Washington D.C.
He has more than twenty years of experience as an archivist and librarian in public, academic and government special collections, with expertise in public service, collection development, arrangement and description, and proper handling of rare books, manuscripts, and digital archives.
As a subject matter expert, Berenbak has assisted research in a wide array of topics, notably U.S. Congressional History, African American history, North Carolina history, and Native American history. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Mary Washington College and a Masters Degree in Library Science from North Carolina Central University.
As Special Collections Manager, Berenbak will develop the Carnegie Library Heritage Center's archival collection and be responsible for year-round exhibits, interactive displays and programming. He will also oversee the system's other genealogical assets and programming.
"We had very specific requirements for the person to take the helm of the Heritage Center," said Lola DeWitt, Executive Director. "Adam has deep professional experience and his reverence for fact-based history and ability to develop relationships will help us realize our vision for the Carnegie."
The Carnegie Library reopened last week after extensive restoration, and was rededicated as the Carnegie Library Heritage Center in a rousing ribbon-cutting ceremony.
