Savannah African Art Museum Unveils Two New Videogames Aimed at Entertaining and Educating
Wednesday, March 18th, 2026
The Savannah African Art Museum is proud to announce its release of the groundbreaking free video games, “AfroVerse” and “Gems of Africa.” These projects were led by two Education and Community Engagement interns, Pragya Verma and Yeoul Shim, from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Together, these games demonstrate how game-based learning can support cultural education, digital literacy, and meaningful engagement with African heritage in contemporary learning environments.
The museum invites the public to explore this and other digital initiatives on the Savannah African Art Museum website, where learning is reinforced through narrative quests and virtual connections to their physical collection.
Featured items include the Oba (king) of the Kingdom of Benin cast in bronze and a spider stool of the Bamileke people, which were carefully 3D-scanned and digitally refined to ensure cultural accuracy within the game world. In the game, players will learn about four core cultural values from traditional African cultures through riddles and a search-and-seek game play.
This project aligns with the Savannah African Art Museum’s mission to use storytelling as a bridge between generations and cultures.
"The Savannah African Art Museum is thrilled to partner with interns Pragya Verma and Yeoul Shim (Masters graduates now) from the Savannah College of Art and Design to produce these amazing educational games,” states Alisa Evans-Newsome, executive Director of the Museum. “We are striving to bring African art to the public in new and exciting ways, and we think these games will do just that.”
“AfroVerse” is available for download on Fortnite, and “Gems of Africa” is available on MetaHorizon. Guests can visit the Museum’s website to access download instructions for the games as well as more information
about the games.
