Board of Education Police Department Honors Officers and Staff at Annual Awards Ceremony

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) Board of Education Police Department (BOEPD) recently hosted a special awards ceremony recognizing the outstanding service and dedication of its campus police officers and support staff. The annual event celebrates the individuals who work each day to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and school communities across the district.
Held as part of the department’s ongoing commitment to professionalism and officer wellness, the ceremony highlighted the vital role campus police play in maintaining safe learning environments. From early-morning traffic control to emergency response and daily school engagement, these professionals serve as a steady and trusted presence on campuses.
Colleagues and supervisors came together to recognize individual achievements and years of service and to announce and celebrate recipients of these top honors:
- Civilian of the Year – Vergie Stroman
- Crossing Guard of the Year – Delores Wallace
- Dispatcher of the Year – Lawanda Jones-West
- School Safety Officer (SSO) of the Year – Phillip Wilson
- School Resource Officer (SRO) of the Year – Joyce Foster
- Supervisor of the Year – Randy Clewis
LARRY LOWER AWARD
The Larry Lower Award honors the legacy of Larry Lower, a former Marine, Chief of Police, and Board of Education member known for his selfless service, humility, and dedication to others.
This year’s recipients, Dr. Angie Lewis and Dr. Quintina Miller-Fields, embody those values - leading with heart, serving with purpose, and making a meaningful impact across the department and the district. They were recognized for their service.
CHIEF’S SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDS
Chief Terry Enoch honored five team members whose behind-the-scenes work plays a vital role in the department’s success. These individuals go above and beyond, contributing time, expertise, and dedication that often cannot be measured, and they were honored at the ceremony.
·Melanie Rodriguez, Grant Writer and Program Manager, secured over $1.5 million in funding to support district safety initiatives.
·Monsia Washington, Executive Secretary, keeps the department running smoothly with precision and professionalism.
·Lt. Justin Pratt, Emergency Manager, leads critical efforts to strengthen school safety and security.
·Major Rob Rodriguez and Major Arron Graves, Deputy Chiefs, provide strong leadership and support that drive the department’s progress and excellence, turning vision into reality.
CHIEF’S COMMENDATION AWARD
Lt. Robert Edenfield and Sergeant First Class Kurtis Purtee quickly stepped up to meet an urgent need, taking on additional leadership responsibilities while continuing to fulfill their roles in the West Sector. Their willingness to serve wherever needed reflects a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff across the district. In recognition of their dedication, professionalism, and service, they were presented with the department’s Commendation Award.
