Judge Realty Leases Prime Commercial Space at The 912 to Maizal

Judge Realty recently leased commercial space at The 912, an exciting new mixed-use development located at the corner of Habersham Street and East 37th Street in the heart of Savannah’s Starland District, to Maizal, which will be Savannah’s first gluten-free Columbian café and event space.

Owned and operated by longtime Big Bon Bodega partners Kay Heritage and Shahin Afsharian, Maizal will serve authentic, handmade arepas, Columbian-inspired bowls and handmade pastries as well as locally roasted Columbian coffee. The new café is expected to open in Fall 2026.

The concept for Maizal (a Spanish word meaning “cornfield”) was originally developed in 2023 by Bogota, Columbia native, chef and Big Bon team member Marisol Borrego through Big Bon’s Ghost Kitchen pop-up concept, which was designed to create local opportunities for culinary entrepreneurship.

“We’re thrilled to open Savannah’s first gluten-free café and special events venue, offering authentic Columbian food, made-to-order coffee and much more,” said Big Bon founder and Maizal co-owner Kay Heritage. “Marisol’s concept for the menu at Maizal focuses on handmade Columbian cuisine, offering something new for local residents and visitors.”

Maizal will be located in a prime 1,334-square-foot corner restaurant space at Habersham and 37th Street, offering indoor and outdoor dining as well as convenient off-street parking. The venue will be available for private events, including weddings, rehearsal dinners and corporate functions.

The 912 was designed and built by award-winning E.H. Fortitude, in collaboration with Ward Architecture + Preservation, an award-winning architecture firm in Savannah, Ga. Judge Realty is currently offering premier commercial and residential spaces at this new three-story complex that’s perfectly positioned steps from SCAD’s Wallin Hall, Common Thread, Brochu’s, Big Bon Bodega and The Vault.
